Jackaline Rutter
Owner, Instructor

Founded on the basis that everyone can dance…Jackaline Rutter opened SlapStep Studios in June 2013 offering clogging only. In January of 2024, the studio expanded to include a wide vareity of dance fitness classes for adults.

Jackaline has been dancing for over thirty years and has has been the proud owner of several dance studios including Jackaline’s School of Dance – Home of Saco Sensation Cloggers and Dynamix. Both studios were based in Maine and were prominent in the New England communities. The clogging teams thrived at competition, often taking home several 1st place trophies. But the most important trophy, Spirit Award, was taken home three times by the dancers at Saco Sensation Cloggers. Jackie’s philosophy encourages unity with individuality and motivation creating one team with the goal of evolution in dance!

SlapStep Studios is founded on this same philosophy – everyone is welcome here! Every body, regardless of age and ability is designed for dance. For more information please feel free to email or give me a call at 970-315-CLOG.

Steph Bernazal

Stephanie Bernazal has been dancing since the age of 5. During her time in competitive drill team, Stephanie enjoyed learning many forms of dance including hip-hop, jazz, lyrical and modern. Stephanie began assistant teaching for her mother’s studio while in high school and later taught her own classes throughout college. Her passion for dance has been with her since she was a little girl.

She loves bringing happiness to others through dance. Stephanie is so excited to be a part of Slapstep Studios. She looks forward to sharing her gift and love of dance with everyone!

Marlene Cavanagh

Despite the different paths Marlene’s life has taken, dancing has been her constant!  It has inspired and grounded her, since she slipped on her first ballet slippers at five.

In New York City, she was fortunate to study with Fosse great Anne Reinking, and jazz and tap master Billy Siegenfeld. In Los Angeles, while pursuing a communications and publicity career, she made sure to get her jazz and tap classes in and studied with Richard Kuller.  His style harkens from “Old Hollywood” legends, like Donald O’Connor.

Flash forward to her current life in Colorado, where she studied with Broadway and 42nd Street veteran, Karen Kleber. She also had the privilege of participating in the Big Apple Tap Festival, and learning rhythm tap from masters Barbara Duffy, Brenda Buffalino and Dianne Walker.

She looks forward to sharing her lifetime love of dance with you!

Dancing has been part of Becky's life at many different times. She did ballet, tap, and jazz in elementary school. Marching band was a big focus in high school. She joined in on the swing dancing craze in the late 1990s. And she's been clogging with Jackie for almost 11 years.

She's so excited to introduce new dancers to the fun of clogging!

Katie Pierson

Katie is a seasoned dancer with a lifelong dedication to the art of movement. Beginning her journey at the tender age of six, she found her love of dance in the room of her ballet classes. Over the years, she developed a strong foundation in classical and modern dances, mastering the nuances of form, posture, and expression that dance allowed. Driven by a thirst for exploration and a desire to broaden her horizons, Katie ventured into the vibrant world of belly dance as a young adult, training with Phoenix of Denver, Shimmy with Sheikha and many others. Belly Dance is where she discovered a new avenue for self-expression and creativity. With its rich history, cultural significance, and emphasis on fluid movements and sensuality, belly dance has opened up new avenues of exploration and expression for her. As she immerses herself in this captivating art form, she is continuously inspired by its ability to celebrate the beauty of the human body in all its shapes and sizes.

Beyond her work as a performer, Katie has found fulfillment in sharing her passion for dance with others as a dedicated teacher. Through her classes and workshops, she strives to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where students of all backgrounds and abilities can feel safe and empowered to explore movement, connect with their bodies, and embrace their unique journey of self-discovery.

Dance will always be a huge passion for Katie, and it is something that she looks at as an embodiment technique but also as a great form of exercise! At the heart of her mission is a commitment to helping people feel at home in their bodies, fostering a sense of embodiment, confidence, and self-love that extends far beyond the dance studio. Through these classes, Katie hopes to inspire and uplift others with her passion, dedication, and unwavering belief in the transformative power of dance.

Sophie Strausser

Hi everyone! My name is Sophie and here’s a little bit about me... I’ve had a passion for performing since I was a kid, embracing every opportunity to sing, dance, play instruments, and perform in musicals. My love for the stage blossomed into a competitive dance career starting in middle school, where I trained in hip hop, jazz, contemporary, modern, and ballet. After four years with a competitive dance company, I joined my high school poms team. There, I developed skills in poms and hip hop, competing at state, regional, and national levels, and earning the All-American title for two consecutive years.

I recently graduated from CSU with a bachelor's degree in Ecosystem Science and Sustainability and this year, will continue as a graduate student. Throughout my college years, I continued to nurture my love for dance, taking classes and exploring new dance styles such as heels and burlesque. I’m eager to bring my experience and passion for dance to my teaching. I’m excited to dance with you all!
